CfAO Fall Retreat, 2006

The purpose of the Fall Retreat is to provide a forum for reporting on progress of CfAO sponsored research and activities, discussion of new and related ideas, and fostering opportunities for forming collaborative efforts. We want to keep the "formality" of presentation to a minimum and instead encourage honest technical exchange and open discussion of new ideas. As such, the presentations will generally be limited to 10 minutes apiece, allowing lots of time for discussion. It is recommended that graduate students be given the opportunity to speak at the retreat as a way of introducing them to the community.

CfAO Laser Workshop Sunday November 19 at Tenaya Lodge, in conjunction with / subsequent to the CfAO Fall Retreat, organized by Dee Pennington and Domenico Bonaccini.

The purpose of this workshop is for all interested parties to exchange information and decide where key investments should be made.

• LGS AO status (now there are many! Lick, Keck, Gemini, Palomar, VLT)
• Review and discussion of ongoing Laser development efforts:
  • Technology Development: possible topic areas: Solid state amplifiers, fiber amplifiers, mixing crystals, fiber delivery
  • Understanding Laser to Sodium Coupling Physics and relation to pulse format; Measurements of Sodium layer return
• Discussion of strategy and plans for AO laser development
  • Coinvestment/collaboration in acquiring important technologies: e.g. fiber development, mixing crystals
