Speaker Bio: Emily Rice is fifth-year Ph.D. student in astronomy at UCLA. She studies the cool, chemically complex atmospheres of brown dwarfs using high-resolution near-infrared spectroscopy and atmosphere modeling. Her day-to-day work involves writing and running code to produce and analyze data, collaborating with other astronomers, communicating results in posters, presentations, and journal articles, and occasionally observing with the Keck telescopes.
